You arrive at the airport in Lima but immediately fly south towards Arequipa. There you will be picked up from the airport and taken to a hotel on the outskirts of the city centre. Your tour guide will do a briefing of the journey and he will arrange all the necessary paperwork with you. On midday you can explore the magnificent colonial city. Highlights include the central square featuring a grand cathedral and the historic Santa Catalina convent. Don't miss the locally renowned Ice Mummies or the vibrant San Camilo Market. In the evening, indulge in local cuisine at one of the charming terraces surrounding the central square.

Excitement is in the air as we kick-start our motorcycletour early in the morning to start our adventure. Today we ride on well-paved roads over the mighty Andes. The final stretch takes us across the relatively flat Altiplano, leading us to our destination - the city of Puno, nestled along the shores of Lake Titicaca. Upon arrival, we head to the port for a boat excursion to the"Floating Islands of Uros" on the highest navigable lake in the world. Spanning across borders into Bolivia, Lake Titicaca impressively sits at an altitude of 3,800 meters, with a surface area equivalent to a quarter of the Netherlands. As you soak in the breathtaking scenery, seize the opportunity to explore the fascinating culture of the Uros community. This day promises an unique experience, brimming with adventure and cultural insights in this stunning region.

Today is a day of extremes, we descend from the Andes into the jungle of the Amazon lowlands, it is also the longest driving day on this tour. Our adventure begins North of Puno, as we cross the city of Juliaca, also known as"little New Delhi" - an unique experience in itself. Our route takesus across the Altiplano to Macusani, and we follow the 'Inter-Oceanic Highway'downhill on the eastern slopes of the Andes. Over a spectacular route, we descend from the majestic Andes into the jungle lowlands of the Amazon, over a distance of 170 kilometres from 4,840 to 380 metres altitude. A route that is anything but straight! Our destination is Quincemil. The town offers a distinctive atmosphere that captures the essence of the region. Quite different compared to the towns in the highlands or on the Peruvian coast. We spend the night in a small family hotel in the jungle, which offers a relaxed atmosphere and reflects the uniqueness of this region.

After refuelling in Quincemil in the tropical Amazon village, we have an impressive challenge ahead of us today. What has come down must go up again - we will climb the mighty Andes again. Over the next 100 kilometres, we will climb from 600 to 4,700 metres altitude, navigating a winding road that adds excitement to every twist and turn. The panoramic views along the way transform this ascent into an unforgettable experience. In the afternoon, our expedition brings us to Cusco, the historic capital of the Incas. The stunning Plaza des Armas is adorned by two colonial churches, and the plethora of restaurant balconies provides a magnificent panorama of the city centre. Our accommodation for two nights is nestled in the heart of the city. Where we can joyfully conclude the day with a refreshing beer or a classic pisco sour at the Plaza de Armas.

Explore the vibrant markets and charming alleyways alongside colonial buildings in Cuzco, where you have the entire day to immerse yourself in the rich history. On this day we embark on a relatively short journey into the 'Sacred Valley of the Incas'. The Sacred Valley is characterised by its particular fertility and served as a natural centre for the agricultural activities of the Incas. The sacred Urubamba River runs through the valley, revered by the Incas in this region. Along the way, we can explore the Salinas (salt terraces) and make a stop in Urubamba for a delightful midday meal. In the early afternoon, we reach the authentic Inca town of Ollantaytambo, where you can witness the most impressive Inca fortress. This unique site holds historical significance as the only place where the Incas emerged victorious in a battle against the Spanish.

The absolute tourist highlight of South America is Machu Picchu. And one of the high points of this motorbike tour. As there is (still) no existing road to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), we take the train. Boarding the early morning train, we traverse the picturesque Urubamba River, reaching Aguas Calientes in just two hours. From there, a brief half-hour bus ride with hairpin turns takes us to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu, the ancient Inca capital in the heart of the jungle, stands as the most exquisite and well-preserved testament to the Incan civilization. Evading Spanish discovery, this site exudes the nobility of Incan culture. Immerse yourself in the allure of Machu Picchu by exploring its captivating grounds or delving into the myriad theories shared by our knowledgeable local guides. In the afternoon we take the train back to Ollantaytambo.

On our way to the coast, we are faced with the challenge of crossing the Andes once again, this time in an easterly direction. The motorcycle journey offers a phenomenal driving experience, featuring hundreds of hairpin turns eagerly awaiting us, along with simply spectacular views. We tackle climbs and descents to cross an impressive pass and make a stopover in Abancay. Halfway to Nasca, we spend the night in the non-touristy town of Chalhuanca, providing us with an authentic experience. This stage promises not only exciting motorbike riding, but also the opportunity to experience the local culture far away from the tourist crowds.

Nasca is globally renowned for its vast pampas adorned with mysterious geoglyphs,figures, and lines. These enigmatic lines, predating the Inca era, span for extensive distances, featuring both straight lines and colossal animal symbols. Delve into this fascinating mystery of Nasca's ancient geoglyphs, adding an extra layer of intrigue to your Peruvian adventure.

In the morning, we have the opportunity to fly over the world-famous Pampa with the Nazca Lines to get a better view of them from the air. After lunch, we continue our motorbike tour through the desert to the coast. This part of Perushows the striking climate contrast in the country, as it is the driest place in the world where it has not rained for 500 years. The overnight stay is in a hotel on the beach in a stunning location, and you can end the day with a view of the sea.

We drive on the famous Panamericana Highway that connects Alaska with Tierra del Fuego. We have the sandy desert on the left, persistently encroaching upon the asphalted road, while the majestic Pacific Ocean graces our right side. After our midday break, we turn inland into the enchanting Majes Valley. The path unfolds through a captivating landscape, adorned with bare rocks and flourishing fields of rice and maize, nurtured by the waters of the River Majes. Absolutely a picturebook like landscape. Our overnight stay is in a modest yet comfortable hotel in Aplao.

Perhaps the most spectacular ride of the entire journey awaits us today. Once again, we will climb extreme altitudes of over 4,800 metres. An additional highlight awaits as we traverse around 40 kilometres on a breathtaking gravelroad, delivering an incomparable driving experience! We navigate through a surreal landscape of boulders, cacti and petrified lava, huge mountain ranges rise up in front of us, and then suddenly there is a green valley again. We spend the night in the non-touristy authentic village of Cabanaconde, strategically located near the Colca Canyon and the renowned 'Cruz del Condor'. The cosy family hotel not only offers pleasant accommodation, but also grants you the opportunity to experience the impressive landscape of the Colca Canyon.

Only about 15 kilometres from the hotel, we reach the "Cruz del Condor" in the Colca Canyon. Which will offer us an excellent chance to witness condors in flight, especially during the early morning. The Colca Canyon ranks as the world's second deepest canyon, boasting adepth more than double that of the Grand Canyon. Today marks the conclusion of our driving journey, as we navigate through Chivay on well-maintained roads, traversing a pass at 4,910 meters, elevatingus above the tree line deep in the Andes. From the pass we have a breathtaking view of eight volcanoes. The pass is aptly named "Mirador de los Andes" (viewpoint over the Andes). Along the way, we will see many vicuñas and pass through traditional Inca villages. The route takes us through the majestic mountains back to the 'White City' of Arequipa. In the evening, we share our experiences over a hearty farewell dinner in the city of Arequipa and review our unforgettable motorbike tour through Peru.
After an exhilarating two weeks of adventure, it is now time to say goodbye. An airport transfer will be organised for you in Arequipa, from where you will start your return journey. During this trip, we travel through varied landscapes and therefore through different climate zones. Part of the journey takes place between the coast and the western side of the Andes. Here you will find the driest desert in the world, the Atapera Desert. It is often very hot here. What's more, our days are quite long as we are travelling long distances. As soon as we enter the Andes, the difference in altitude plays a role. The journey is almost exclusively on tarred roads, only one stretch (40 kilometres) is unpaved but not difficult to drive.
Motorbike insurance is not included and can be purchased locally. Cost: 20 USD per day (x 13 days): covers damage to the motorbike (up to min. 700 USD and max. 2500 USD excess) and property damage caused to third parties. If you don't take insurance then a deposit of 2.500,- USD by credit card or cash in USD/Euro is required. Personal injury caused to third parties is covered up to a maximum of 3500 USD. Having a health insurance with maximum coverage in Peru is obligated.
CLOTHING
A helmet and a warm motorbike jacket with protection, gloves and good, sturdy motorbike trousers with protection and high (mountain)shoes/boots are compulsory. It can get very warm in the low regions, especially in spring and autumn. At the same time, it is much colder in the high mountains. A motorbike jacket with a removable lining is very suitable here. In colder parts in the mountains, you can also wear extra clothing under the jacket. Furthermore, good sunglasses and a helmet with a visor are useful as protection against the dust. The rainy season in Peru runs from December to February. We organize the trips in spring or autumn and expect little rain then. In the mountains/Amazonas, however, it is difficult to predict the weather and it is therefore advisable to have waterproof clothing with you.

Citizens from most western countries can enter Peru with a "Tarjeta Andina de Migración"(TAM). This is a tourist visa which you can get upon entering Peru. Please,check for yourself if you need a visa, or if you can enter with TAM.
Important for your flight to Arequipa: Make sure that you collect all your luggage from the conveyor belt at Lima airport. No matter what the airline representative at your departure airport says, your luggage will never be sent directly to Arequipa!
